Foster Homes Urgently Needed
Misty Creek Dog Rescue is a No-Kill, Not For Profit All Breed Dog Shelter. Without foster homes, we are limited as to how many dogs we can save.
We take in dogs from pounds, reserves, other shelters and voluntary owner surrenders providing them with medical care, vaccinations, and behavioural training with the aim of finding them forever homes.
Foster Homes Are Always Desperately Needed
Foster Homes are one of the most valuable resource for any Rescue Organization and Misty Creek Dog Rescue is always looking for people willing to open their hearts and homes to our dogs and puppies. Our Shelter is often full and we can only help as many animals as we have room for.
Although we do our best at the Misty Creek Shelter, some dogs blossom when they are in a home environment where they can get some individual attention and house experience and they become much more adoptable.
Fostering is for you if:
Want to help some of the many homeless and stray animals who are waiting for a forever home
Can provide a safe environment where a dog or puppy will be treated kindly
Would like to teach your children how to be gentle and respecting of animals
Would like to provide a temporary companion for another dog or cat
Have been thinking about adopting a dog or puppy but are just not sure how they will fit into your lifestyle
Some of the most commonly asked questions are:
How long will we have to keep the dog or puppy?
The average stay for one of our dogs is 3 weeks to 1 month. However, some dogs can be with us for a long time.
Who provides the food and supplies for the animal?
We do!! A crate, food, supplies, leash, collar and extras will be provided.
What is the dog requires medical care?
You will have the emergency contact numbers for at least 2 foster home co-ordinators in Calgary who will arrange for medical treatment.
What if the dog does not get along with our resident animals
We will provide information regarding introducing animals to resident pets. If we are unable to resolve the issues, we will remove the animal as soon as we are able.
What happens if we go on vacation?
We will arrange for another of our foster homes to keep the dog while you are away.
Who is responsible for interviewing potential new homes?
An adoption application must be completed and each applicant is screened by one of our adoption co-ordinators before they can view an animal. Appointments are set up a convenient time for the foster home and one of our foster co-ordinators will be on hand
How many dogs can be fostered at once?
How big is your house?? That depends on whether you are fostering puppies or adults, how much time you are away from home and how much dog experience you have. Typically, no more than 2 adult dogs but you could foster a whole litter of puppies if you have the space and patience.
What if we want to keep the dog?
Provide that we have not already promised the dog or puppy into a home and you are approved, you may adopt the dog or puppy.
